How to Clear the Browser Cache

Clearing your web browser’s cache means removing stored data such your web browsing history, saved passwords, and website cookies. Below are steps to clear your browser cache for different Internet browsers.

How do I clear my browser cache in Google Chrome?

1. Click on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner to open the options menu.

2. Next click “Settings”

3. From the settings menu, scroll down and click “Advanced.”

4. Scroll down and from inside the Privacy and Security section, click on “Clear Browsing Data”. Select the following to clear out:

  • Cookies and other site data
  • Cached images and files
  • Hosted app data (Cloud Print, Gmail, and 3 more)

5. To clear your entire cache, select “the beginning of time” from the dropdown menu next to “Clear the following items from…”

6. Next, the blue button”Clear browsing data.”

7. Exit/quit all browser windows and re-open the browser.

How do I clear my browser cache on a Mac?

Click Safari in the upper left-hand side of your screen. In the menu that appears, click Preferences.
In the window that appears, click the Privacy tab. Click the button Manage Website Data….
Another window will appear, it will take a few minutes to populate. Click Remove All on the bottom left.
Click Done, and close out of the Privacy window.

On the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu icon.
Select the More Tools link.
Select the Clear browsing data link.
In the data drop-down menu, select the time range where you want to clear browsing data.
Select the Cookies and other site and plug-in data and Cached images and files checkboxes.
Click the Clear Browsing Data button.

In the Firefox menu bar, click the Firefox option.
Select the Preferences link.
Click the Privacy tab.
Under the History heading, click the clear your recent history link.
Select the Cache checkbox.
Click the Clear Now button.

How to clear the cache on an Apple device

To clear the cache on your iPad, take the following steps. These also work on an iPhone:

In the Settings app, tap Safari, and you will see options to Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
You can use these options as a first step in cleaning up your Safari browser. Doing this won’t clear all of your cache, however.
To clear the cache fully, within the Settings app, tap Safari > Advanced > Website Data.
Tap Remove All Website Data to clear the cache.

How to Clear Your Browser’s Cache on an Android device

To clear the cache on your Tablet or smart phone, take the following steps.

Open your “Home” screen.
Tap your web browser icon.
Tap the “Menu” button (it will look like 3 horizontal lines or dots next to the website address).
Tap the “Settings” option.
Your device will either take you to a menu of available settings OR it will have one of the three following options. Tap on the option you have:
– Privacy & Security
– Privacy
– Security
Tap on “Clear Cache”.
Tap “OK” to confirm.
Tap “Clear all cookie data”.
Tap “OK” to confirm.
Click the “Home” button to go back to your “Home” Screen.
Restart your device by turning it off and then on again.
Alternatively, after tapping “privacy”, you may see a button that says “Clear Browsing Data” — tap it, make sure “cache” and “cookies, site data” are checked — uncheck all the other boxes — and tap the “Clear” button at the bottom.
